In recent years Chiang Mai has become a hotspot for contemporary art in Asia, which comes a no surprise as the city’s exceptional atmosphere and wealth of creativity must make it a perfect spot for any creative soul.
I found a younger and edgier take on the art scene at Gallery Seescape, which is located in the super hip Nimman ara of Chiang Mai. Founded by Thai artist Torlarp Larpjaroensook (Hern), Seescape is for sure one of the most hippest hangouts that I have come across during my time in Chiang Mai.
The place is quirky and rich with detail, from the re-purposed truck turned into a planter that greets visitors to the brightly colored, picnic tables that populate the cafe. It is perfectly located in the Nimman area, my absolute favorite neighborhood in Chiang Mai, due to its incredible arty and chilled vibe.
In addition to one rotating exhibit that showcases art work of up and coming Thai artists, the See Scape compound is also home to an awesome gift shop with cool gifts: picture artsy, double entendre lamps for 2,800 baht (could there be a cooler souvenir for your loved ones from back home) and vintage-looking wooden sunglasses.
The cafe’s treats are mouthwatering, ranging from delicious curries, over peanut butter and banana sandwiches to the prettiest and most tasteful smoothies I have had so far, making sure you either stick around for a while or come back a couple of time to taste all of the deliciousness.
