Jaan Bai which means ‘rice bowl’ in Khmer, is a social enterprise restaurant run by the Cambodian Children’s Trust. It is located in the heart of Battambang and offers training and employment opportunities for all Cambodians that are part of the youth programm.
The place is super cosy, simple and clean. I loved the wooden furniture, the massive bench that was covered with beautiful tiles and the high and decorated ceiling.
The menu includes very interesting and tasty dishes that are basically a fusion of several Asian specialties. My favorites were the most delicious marinated tofu on top of an incredible flavorful rice salad and inside of a Vietnamese inspired sandwich along with green papaya, sliced carrots, salad and an amazing sauce.
Everyone will be happy after a meal at this place, as the offering includes a lot of healthy vegetarian and vegan dishes but also plenty of dishes for all the omnivore travelers.
All in all this was most certainly the most delicious food that I ate while travelling through Cambodia and up until this day I am still dreaming of their tofu.
